"The airfield is a challenge to land and take off but the view is worth the effort. You'll have to walk to downtown, about a half mile away, to find a cute little town with a few stores. We weren't really pleased with our diner selection but hope to have better luck when we return for the local Beer festival." Phil

"That must be one of the biggest landing strips we've ever been on. You can

save your brakes on this one alright. The Castle Air Museum is the highlight of the trip with countless cold war era warbirds, including a SR-71 Blackbird. The indoor museum is delightful with great historical artifacts. Ask for the shuttle service from the airport to the museum as the walk is rather long, especially in the heat. The food at the museum store/coffee shop is average but service is friendly." Phil

"The flight over the lake Tahoe and the mountains is a sight to be seen. The descent from over 10,000 feet was a trip and the fuel is really worth the trip. But there is no food around to account for, except a small fast food place half a mile away where the waitress on roller skates was the highlight of the menu." Phil

"Another of my favorite trips. The views are breath taking and the approach and the landing are so pleasant. If you plan on eating at the airport restaurant, park in the mid transient area. If you want to walk to the harbor (half a mile away), taxi and park at the south end of the airport. There are plenty of restaurants and diners to choose from, so you too will need to make more than one trip to enjoy the different types of food available." Phil

"Its a big airport and in barren place that is so close to Mount Shasta and Crater Lake is a a shame to miss it. The restaurant located upstairs in the airport is fairly new and has good food and great service with a great view of the airfield over the F-18 (don't even think of crossing that painted line on the tarmac if you want to live...)." "The cafe is very clean and the food is quite good. The vegetable Napoleon is very tasty and light. The day we were there the service by the waitress was excellent, unfortunately the kitchen was a little slow to our taste, but the wait was worth it.  The smaller runway (12-30) is used primarily by for the parachutists, so check the CTAF frequently and stay clear of them when they are airborne.

"The food was good thought the service good use some improvement. The nearby Estrella Warbird Museum is a small one but full of great aircrafts including a WWII DC3 and quite a few cold war era warbirds. You can taxi from the transient parking to the museum and park by all the museum pieces. BTW: Don't forget to fly over the Hearst Castle just 5 minutes west and the nearby Pinnacles National monument just 15 minutes northwest." Phil

"Since home is at nearby Gnoss (KDVO) I can't tell you how many times we went to the Two-Niner Diner for great food, great ambiance and great service with lovely waitresses always wearing a smile. Just that is worth a cup of good coffee. Its almost always a right turn approach to 29 and you get to fly right above the Petaluma Adobe. Off course the nearby scenery from Mount Tamalpais, Point Reyes, Marin County, Sonoma Valley and the Redwood Coast are well worth the detour.: Phil

"I love the food and service at the Sky Kitchen. Service is fast and always with a smile in spite of a busy place. The nearby Hiller's Museum is a great place to visit with many beautiful planes from all eras, though you'll have to walk around the north side of the airfield to get to the front entrance of the museum. It too bad you can't taxi and park at the rear of the museum.

"Another of our top favorites. The Scenery and the 15 approach are beautiful. The restaurant is the round building at the north-western side of the airport and worth walking the 1/2 mile. The Going there is like stepping into the American Graffiti movie. We've been there many times and I still can't tell which of the service or the food is the best because they are both outstanding. The waitresses and the owner are delightful, always with a smile and the food is delicious and portions are ample. Don't forget to try their refreshing milkshakes." Phil
